Aquatic Center
In August 2017, the board approved an agreement with IKM Architects to design the Seneca Valley Aquatic Center. After more than a year of thoughtful planning and working cooperatively with a core group of stakeholders, their vision was realized on Sept. 4, 2018, when initial plans and renderings were met with excitement and enthusiasm by the crowd.
“I’m very pleased with the design,” said Dr. Tracy Vitale, Seneca Valley Superintendent of Schools. “I feel very strongly about providing our students with a facility where they will learn a very important life skill.”
The original swimming facility, located in the Seneca Valley Intermediate High School, was 56 years old. After many years of repairing the pool, it became time to address a long-term solution. As such, it became a part of the District’s long-term facilities planning efforts, which were presented to the School Board in 2014. The natatorium was also a part of the District’s 2015 Feasibility Project, which was an in-depth study of the District’s facilities to address long-range planning and responsiveness.
Board members, at the time of the aquatic center's approval, expressed their interest in the space becoming an asset to the community and are excited about the many students and residents who utilize it regularly. The Board and Administrators gathered with others for the groundbreaking of the pool on Sept. 16, 2019. They gathered for a second time to celebrate the official ribbon cutting and opening in February 2021.
"This new aquatic facility is maximized by teachers during the instructional day, by coaches during after-school activities, and by the community in programmatic efforts for all residents," said Ms. Heather Lewis, Athletic Director.
Here are just a few of the testimonials shared by those who have visited the aquatic center:
- "I have been in this place and it is a beautiful space that is a wonderful place for having swim meets. It's bright and wide with enough seating. The pool is beautiful. The lobby is a great gathering place and the concession stand is multifunctional for various sporting events."
- "I am a swimmer for Seneca and love to be at this pool."
- "It is an engaging facility that promotes a healthy physical and positive mental lifestyle for students, faculty, and the surrounding community. Most collegiate aquatic centers cannot even compare."
