Academic Decathlon

Academic Decathlon

The United States Academic Decathlon is a ten-event scholastic competition for teams of high school students.
 
Each school enters a team of nine students: 3 "A" or Honor students (3.750 - 4.00 GPA), 3 "B" or Scholastic students (3.00 - 3.749 GPA), and 3 "C or below" Varsity students (0.00 - 2.999 GPA). Students compete for  medals and scholarship money for college. Many local PA colleges and universities offer thousands of dollars in scholarships for students in Academic Decathlon.
 
The following is some general information on the topics in each of the subject areas:
- SCIENCE: The science topic will be an introduction to ecology and will include case studies and examples relevant to India.
 
- LITERATURE: The literature curriculum will include critical reading, one long work of literature, and selected shorter works. The long work literature will be the novel Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya.
 
ART: The art curriculum will include a section on art fundamentals and will largely focus on the art and architecture of India.
 
- MUSIC: The music curriculum will include basic elements of music theory and will focus on the music of India.
 
- SOCIAL SCIENCE: The social science curriculum will cover the history of modern India.
 
- ECONOMICS: The economics curriculum will cover fundamental economic concepts, microeconomics, and macroeconomics and will also include a thematic section on the Indian economy.
 
- MATHEMATICS: The mathematics curriculum will cover permutations and combinations, algebra, and statistics.

The mission of Academic Decathlon is to promote learning and academic excellence among students of varying achievement levels by developing and providing multidisciplinary academic competitions using Academic Decathlon curriculum.

Cost for Students to Participate:

Activity Fee (help reduce travel cost and future purchases)
Cost for transportation to competitions and lunch
Cost for hotel, transportation, and meals at Regional and State Competitions.
